Ann Edwards has been an Educational Therapist working in the field of dyslexia and language based learning difficulties for the past 30 years. She is an Accredited Training Fellow of the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators, a Certified Dyslexia Therapist through the International Dyslexia Association (IDA), a licensed Reading Specialist, and the Orton-Gillingham instructional and training consultant at the Stephen Gaynor School in Manhattan.
Ms. Edwards' company, Literacy for Life, has been contracted by the NYC Department of Education for the past 8 years to provide teacher training and support in the Orton-Gillingham Approach. As a Fellow of the Academy she provides Orton-Gillingham approved training courses at the Classroom Educator, Associate, Certified and Fellow levels. She is also the mother of six.
Throughout Ms. Edwards' extensive career as a literacy consultant and dyslexia therapist, she has always worked toward creating resources for students and parents to aid in learning foundational reading skills. By utilizing the basic principles of the Orton-Gillingham Approach and other multisensory practices, bumpybooks was created.
Ann and artist/illustrator Karen Goldberg set out to create a simple, effective, and affordable guide for parents and teachers to help children read. Children must be given the right tools for learning and bumpybooks is that tool! The best part about bumpybooks, and its teaching methods, is that they help all types of learners, not only those who struggle.
